Moritzburg Festival Academy: 1 to 14 August 2011

In August 2011, 38 musicians from 15 nations came to Moritzburg near Dresden to work on a comprehensive orchestra programme under the direction of Estonian conductor Anu Tali. They performed Alfred Schnittke's "Concerto grosso No. 1" with Colin Jacobsen and Mira Wang as soloists as well as Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 4 in C minor. The Festival Orchestra gave a successful tour concert at the King Albert Theatre in Bad Elster and opened the Moritzburg Festival in Volkswagen's "Die Gläserne Manufaktur" in Dresden on 7 August 2011.

Furthermore all participants performed chamber music in a concert called "Long Night of Chamber Music" and in a Family Concert. The rehearsals were mentored by established artists of the Moritzburg Festival 2011 such as Nicola Benedetti, Colin Jacobsen, Mira Wang, Max Mandel, Nils Mönkemeyer, Julian Steckel, Jan Vogler and Andreas Haefliger. With a final chamber music concert at the Proschwitz Music-Picnic the Festival Academy 2011 came to a celebrated conclusion.
